Refresh will take care of your Gloucestershire home renovation!
← Back to locationsThe South West English county of Gloucestershire has changed hugely over the years, with the modern day county boundaries differing from those of the historic county. Comprising the entire Forest of Dean, part of the Cotswold Hills and some of the River Severn, Gloucestershire borders Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, the Welsh county of Monmouthshire and the newly formed Bristol and Somerset unitary authority area.
The county town is Gloucester, a cathedral city nestled in amongst the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and the plush green Forest, but the region is also home to spa town and racing locale Cheltenham, the market town of Stroud, the medieval parish of Tewkesbury and the Cotswold hub of Cirencester; alongside several smaller towns and villages.
Two green belt areas cover the county, as well as the large designated AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in the Cotswolds. Both belts intersect with the AONB, with the southern protecting the outlying villages between Chipping Sodbury and Thornbury from the urban sprawl of Bristol; and the second to prevent convergence between Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bishops’ Cleeve.
Gloucestershire is known for its variety of historic buildings, particularly as religious centres. These include the Cathedral of Gloucester, the Abbey Church of Tewkesbury (which remains the tallest Norman tower in England today) and the Church of Cirencester. Historic parish churches exist through almost all of the market towns and villages across the county, and relics of Tudor country houses, Cistercian Abbeys and 15century mansions can still be found. Furthermore, adding to the architectural fascination of the county are its several Royal residents including Highgrove House, Gatcombe Park and Nether Lypiatt Manor.
Perhaps the best known aspect of historical Gloucestershire culture is its annual cheese-rolling contest, which takes place at Cooper’s Hill and is subject to much media interest year on year. This quirky culture, alongside stunning landscapes and interesting architecture, make Gloucestershire a great place to live and visit alike.
Home Renovations in Gloucestershire
The vast scenery of Gloucestershire means that the area is home to a variety of residence types. These include the large and charming farmhouses of the Cotswolds, Victorian terraces through urban areas, grand Georgian homes in smaller villages and modern developments throughout the county. Refresh Renovations Gloucestershire has worked with all of them: from renovations on barn conversions and massive mansions to apartment blocks and semi-detached family homes.
Gloucestershire is a very desirable place to buy property, and in particular, to raise families in or retire to. This does leave the county on the expensive end of the scale when it comes to house prices as its so popular but a brief glimpse of the region’s natural beauty and charming communities leave homeowners in no doubt that it’s a great place to live. This also means, for many, that it is more cost-effective to renovate a property than it is to relocate… and that’s exactly where Refresh Renovations Gloucestershire come in!
