Homeowners Tim and Lorrayne live in an original 1920’s bungalow on a tranquil Epsom street and decided it was time to transform their outdated kitchen and bathroom. They contacted Refresh renovations specialist Saleem Bhikoo to breathe functionality and vogue into their home.

Kitchen renovation

Upon first inspection of the heart of the home, Saleem realized the kitchen hadn’t been touched in years. It was impractical and outdated, and in desperate need of an upgrade. Saleem’s team started with completely gutting the internal kitchen and replacing both windows.
“Lorrayne had already selected kitchen cabinetry before contacting Refresh,” explains Saleem, “so I coordinated the project with their chosen supplier ensuring all plumbing and electrical outlets aligned with the existing kitchen plans, while keeping them updated with the build project.”

Laundry renovation

Once new electrical and plumbing was installed, Saleem moved on to the concealed laundry room located behind a set of double doors within the kitchen. “Our electrician installed automatic sensory lights,” reveals Saleem, “assuring the lights would automatically turn on upon the opening of the doors, without having to waste time patting the wall to locate the switch.”

Bathroom renovation

Moving on to the bathroom, Saleem and his team commenced by stripping the walls back to reveal the studs in order to install insulation, before sealing it with aqua gib—bestowing the room with the comfort of warmth.
“When it came to selecting tiles, I met Lorrayne at the tile store,” revealed Saleem. “Together, we looked at the range of tiles until she found the set she loved.”
In the final stretch, Saleem installed a custom built shower with frameless glass and used high quality fixtures and fittings from the Robertsons range. The bathroom had now been transformed into a modern, functional, and airy space.

Final thoughts

When asked about his favourite aspect of the project, Saleem says “I loved how we were able to use lighter colours to make the space appear larger!”
