Time for a Refresh

With a dated en suite and uninspiring kitchen, Susannah knew it was time to renovate her 1980s Tawa property. She wanted to create stylish spaces that would reflect her taste, modernise her home, and increase her property value. The kitchen in particular needed a serious makeover. It was a large space but was tired and unappealing, with textured wallpaper, an outdated extractor fan, and standard Formica bench tops. Susannah reached out to her local Refresh Renovation Consultant Mark Morrison for advice and to see how he could help.

Expert Advice

Mark met with Susannah so he could get a sense of the space she was wanting to renovate. After listening to her ideas and offering tailored advice, the pair agreed that both the kitchen and en suite required a full renovation, which meant removing all existing fittings and fixtures, and rebuilding.
Susannah hadn’t worked with Refresh before but was quickly impressed by how simple and straightforward the process was. After agreeing on a stylish and modern concept, Mark was able to provide detailed plans and costs for Susannah to approve before any work commenced. This meant there was a clear understanding of outcomes and budget for both parties, and Susannah felt reassured that she wouldn’t be dealing with changing goal posts when it came to the final cost.
Mark was also able to draw on an established network of suppliers and tradespeople he trusted for the renovation, which meant access to trade discounts and confidence in the quality of the workmanship.

Work Underway

With a clear plan and budget established, Susannah’s exciting home transformation could begin. Renovating a bathroom and kitchen simultaneously meant multiple tradespeople to contract, including plumbing, electrical, building, flooring, tiling, and more, as well as managing a tight schedule to ensure the timeline remained on track.
Mark expertly managed every aspect of the renovation to ensure it was completely stress-free for Susannah. His team quickly had both rooms stripped and the new build underway, focusing on clean lines and a modern look that would brighten the spaces.
Susannah also had access to the intuitive Refresh customer portal, which was used to provide updates, manage documents, and load invoices. Mark remained Susannah’s single point of contact for the entire project, from the design stages right through to final delivery, so she was always kept informed at every stage of the process.

Sleek and Stylish Transformation
Susannah’s kitchen was transformed into a stylish and modern hub that felt spacious, bright, and beautiful. A deep, ocean-green tiled backsplash is a standout feature, wrapping around the entire kitchen and adding colour and personality to the space, contrasting beautifully with classic all white cupboards, white marble-look benchtops, and a white dishwasher.
The cupboards have a push mechanism to open and close instead of traditional handles which creates a sleek, streamlined look. Floor-length cupboards provide ample storage while new vinyl laminate flooring in a bright wood tone completes the fresh look.
The same flooring was laid in the ensuite to ensure continuity of design, complemented with classic white fixtures and finishes to create a space that felt light and bright. The small footprint of the ensuite meant a back-to-wall toilet was installed, as well as a floating vanity to create a roomy feel.

Final Thoughts

Mark and his team completely transformed Susannah’s kitchen and en suite with a full renovation of the spaces. The dated and uninspiring kitchen has been replaced with a sleek, stylish, and modern build that utilised feature tiles to inject a pop of colour and personality into an otherwise classic white makeover.
Floor to ceiling cupboards, a sunken sink, and a waterfall benchtop create clean lines that makes the kitchen feel spacious, functional, and led by design.
Mark is thrilled with the results: “The kitchen in particular is a real showstopper and a beautiful space that Susannah can now enjoy,” he says. “We stayed on budget which was very important to our clients, and delivered a top quality renovation that they love.”
Supplies were sourced from Resene, Mitre10, GIB, Placemakers, and Tile Depot.
